The festival is delighted to present three Educational Workshops at the Rye Community Centre during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Opening the series on Saturday 24th August is the 2019 Rye Jazz & Blues Festival Charity Partner of the year The Music Well who are running an introduction to music therapy which is being facilitated by two of their registered music therapists Yair and Marian.

This workshop will be run by Marian and is aimed at children aged 6 - 12 years and their families. It is suitable for all abilities. This is a fun workshop focusing on group singing. The songs are from ‘Ye Ha’ a Wild West themed musical so come along, join in and wear your cowboy hats and checked shirts if you wish!

Please come to the Rye Community Centre at 1:45pm for a 2pm start. The workshop will last about an hour. There will be some refreshments available.

The Music Well

The Music Well has been set up by Liz Butt who is a state registered music therapist and a member of the Health Professions Council. She has been running a Music Therapy service in Rye, East Sussex, since 2004 and has seen the benefit of music for wellbeing. She believes that the community itself is a WELL of musical resources and that by coming together to share musical activities the health of each individual as well as that of the community can benefit.

The Music Well has resources of Drum Circle Leaders, Singing Leaders, Music Teachers, Music Therapists and Musicians able to visit the housebound and many more.

Rye Jazz & Blues festival turned the Rye Community Centre into the Spectrum Jazz Lounge back in 2015 and we are delighted to be presenting our educational workshops back at the Rye Community Centre in 2019!

The Rye Community Centre makes an ideal venue for weddings, clubs, activities, meeting or exhibitions. They have rooms available for hire which offer an attractive and competitive alternative to other venues in Rye. Rye Community Centre, which was once a chapel, is a period building with excellent facilities, including parking for up to 10 cars, and is also close to other car parks. The venue is within a few minutes walk of Rye Town Centre.
