Sunday 25th August 2019: From 11am

Over the main festival weekend on Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th and Monday 26th August you will find five brightly painted upright pianos situated at locations within the town all ready for you to play.

‘Play Me I’m Yours’ is a call to pianists of all ages and abilities to make your way to Rye over the festival weekend, hunt down one of our creatively decorated pianos and play away to your hearts content tickling the ivory’s and entertaining the passers-by in the morning, lunchtime, afternoon or evening!

You don’t have to be a superstar jazz pianist to have a go! It’s a free for all and whatever your musical choice should it be Jazz, Blues, Honky-Tonk, Latin, Funk, Rock or Classical you are all extremely welcome to play away to your hearts content.

If you like the music of George Gershwin, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Billy Strayhorne, Bach, Mozart or Wagner then please just bring your sheet music, pull up a stool and let your music creativity run away with you.

For those much younger budding pianists amongst you please don’t be shy as we would also love to hear your renditions of ‘Three Blind Mice, Baa, Baa Back Sheep’ or even ‘Chop Sticks’.

This is a celebration of the piano which allows those to share their love of music and the visual arts.

Our five pianos are being kindly decorated and painted by students from the Rye College under the watchful eye and leadership of Lauren Loveless, Head of Arts at the College. The Pianos are going to look really super when finished and we are really pleased that the festival has engaged with our local students without whom this wouldn’t happen.

We would also like to thank Rye News for helping the festival locate our pianos and due to the generosity of their readers our five pianos have been secured and kindly collected, free of charge by courtesy of Bournes Removals in Rye.

You never know who might be attending this year’s festival, there may well be a surprise guest pianist appearing, so watch this space and most of all make sure you have fun and enjoy the music and Rye!

Pianos will be located at the Medieval Landgate next to Knoops Chocolate Bar, At Hilders Cliff look out just near the Rye High Street, outside the Butter Market near to St Mary’s Church, outside The Ship Inn on the Strand Quay at the bottom of the town and outside the Rye Retreat Salon on Cinque Ports Street. You can also locate the piano venues within the festival guide which will be distributed widely in the near future.

Let’s all have some fun and make great music!
