We are thrilled to welcome back Mica Paris one of the UK’s finest and most respected female singers with a career full of top 10 singles and albums worldwide.
Mica performs her highly acclaimed brand new show ‘Mica Paris Sings Ella Fitzgerald’ on Friday 15th December.
In April 2017, Mica released two tracks with legendary trumpeter, jazz producer and arranger Guy Barker to celebrate the centenary of Ella Fitzgerald’s birth. In doing so Mica and Guy have paid a unique tribute to Ella.
Mica will be performing with her immensely talented jazz musicians and you can expect to hear many of Ella’s wonderful songs that made her one of the most revered singers of the 20th Century.
Mica has recorded “Imagine My Frustration” and “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye” two classics from the Ella Fitzgerald songbook. The full album is in development and is due for release in 2018.
Rye Jazz Festival are committed to supporting emerging talent and we are delighted to announce jazz vocalist Judi Jackson will be opening for Mica Paris.
The range, power, and sheer soulfulness of Mica Paris’ singing made an immediate impact on the UK music scene in 1988 when she released her debut, double platinum-selling album, ‘So Good’ from which she had her first top ten hit, ‘My One Temptation’. Collaborations with giants in the music industry followed with Nile Rodgers, Prince and Bobby Womack, whilst earning her renowned media title as the undisputed “UK Queen of Soul”.
After Mica’s stunning and sold out headline show at the RyeJazz Festival in August, we had no hesitation in asking Mica back to join one of the world’s best Gospel Choirs for this intimate and incredibly special Christmas show.
Mica has performed and recorded with the choir on many occasions throughout her career and her background from a very early age was immersed in Gospel and Soul music.
With a career of hit records spanning three decades, Mica still remains revered by many as possibly the greatest soul-gospel voice from outside the United States. In recent years she has extended her talents as a television presenter, most notably as BBC 2’s host for ‘What Not To Wear’, a radio presenter for BBC Radio 2 show ‘Soul Solutions’ and an author with 5-star Amazon rated ‘Beautiful Within’.
Over the past twelve months, Mica has toured the UK for the brand new Elvis musical ‘Love Me Tender’ receiving plaudits for her role as Sylvia. She was also a semi-finalist on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ 2015, a presenter for Channel 4’s ‘Treasures of Britain’ and a panellist alongside Dave Stewart on BBC1 talent show ‘Frank Sinatra: Our Way’. However, it’s her extraordinary talent as a singer where Mica continues to triumph fans. Sold-out shows and frequent collaborations with major US soul stars underline her importance to the international soul scene. These have recently included, Chaka Kahn, Angie Stone, Joss Stone and Quincy Jones, to name a few.
Judi Jackson is a multi-talented vocalist from Roanoke, Virginia. Judi has performed on a variety of stages with a myriad of world-class talents. Introduced to the world of music through the Jefferson Center’s Music Lab, Judi spent her early years immersed in a school for young artists and musicians to learn, practice, and perform their talents. At the age of 14 Judi was fortunate enough to meet Wynton Marsalis at the Jefferson Center performance hall after a show. He sent her a box of music the following Christmas that became the seed of inspiration for her development as a jazz vocalist. She began listening to and studying the sounds of Blossom Dearie, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and Mahalia Jackson, amongst many other greats. She continued studying over the next several years and started gaining more experience as a performer by opening for acts such as Mavis Staples. Judi has shared the stage with Snarky Puppy, and recorded her original piece, “Only Love”, last spring with the Grammy award winning group.
Currently at the age of 24, Judi is based in London/NY performing and collaborating on with several musicians and recording her debut EP. She aspires to continue performing as a vehicle for sharing love to all willing to receive it.

It has some fine stained glass, including a window designed by the pre-Raphaelite Burne-Jones in the north aisle.
