Maiuko Quintet make their festival debut opening on the Kino Outdoor stage on Sunday 25th August from noon.

Blending her African and Portuguese roots, Maiuko sings in a unique style, blending jazz, blues, African-inspired rhythms and Portuguese melodies. Through her career, she has won numerous awards and has appeared in concerts worldwide including the Montreux Jazz Festival, WOMAD Festival, The London Jazz South Bank African Month, SOAS Fest, WOW, and LIFEM Fest. We are delighted to have her perform at the festival in 2019.

Born in Mozambique of royal Swazi and Portuguese ancestry, Maiuko sings in a unique style, blending jazz, blues, African-inspired rhythms and Portuguese melodies. Through her career, she has won awards for Best Newcomer, Female Performer of the Year, Best Female Voice, Best Uploaded on Get-out-there, and most recently for Multifaceted Artist. She has appeared worldwide, including performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, WOMAD Festival, The London Jazz South Bank African Month, SOAS Fest, WOW, and LIFEM Fest. She’s collaborated with and played alongside many musical greats including Max Middleton, Chris Difford, Dick Pearce, Jeff Beck, Noel McCalla, Sara Tavares, Luis Represas and Carmen Souza.

Now based in the UK, the singer-songwriter is currently recording a new album with pianist Martin Virgo, double bassist and guitarist Alexander Keen, and violinist Paul Brasington, also featuring some exciting collaborations with world-renowned musicians.

This year the festival is pleased to continue alfresco jazz at the wonderful Kino cinema Terrace in the heart of Rye.

Situated in the middle of town, next to the Butter Market and St Mary’s Church, this beautiful building has been recently refurbished and transformed into one of the best boutique cinemas East Sussex has to offer, and is equipped with state-of-the-art digital high definition projection and sound equipment to ensure the highest quality viewing experience.

Kino Rye’s intimate and stylish café-bar and sunny outside courtyard is popular with film-goers and also with customers who just want to enjoy the excellent coffee, cake and other delicious offerings, many of which are supplied by local producers.

With a fantastic food menu and fully licenced bar, come relax on the Kino Terrace and enjoy some wonderful sounds.
