Continuing the ‘Soulful Saturday’ vibe the amazing Zara McFarlane performs a headline concert on Saturday evening in St Mary’s Church.
Zara picked up the Jazz FM Vocalist of the year award in May and with recent performances including Later…with Jools Holland and the mammoth SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, as well as MOBO awards to her name, she’s definitely one to watch and we’re excited to welcome her to the Rye Jazz & Blues Festival.
Described as ‘vocally akin to early Nina Simone and Roberta Flack’, her most recent album traces her musical heritage from the Caribbean combining jazz with the pulsating reggae rhythms of Jamaica.
Zara’s music is seductive and earthy and as a performer she is uniquely engaging, deftly combining the intricacies of jazz with a deep soulfulness, melding multiple influences from reggae to pop, folk and blues with both her originals and choice of covers.
