The weather is warming up and so are our very exciting plans for this year’s eighth annual Rye international jazz and blues festival over the bank holiday weekend from Saturday 24th to Monday 26th August. Save the dates in your diary and be sure to head to the beautiful and historic town of Rye in East Sussex to soak up the electric atmosphere of this wonderful medieval town and experience the fun and excitement of one of the best boutique music festivals of its kind in the UK.
Three days of free fantastic live music performances take within the heart of Rye from 12.00 Midday to 8pm on Saturday 24th to Monday 26th August, where you can expect to hear the very best in Jazz, Blues, Roots, Fusion, Soul, Funk, Rock Blues, Latin, Hip - Hop, Rap and New Orleans Jazz with an array of amazingly talented musicians from the South East and further a field. Drinks and food can be purchased at the outdoor stage and we close the roads to allow you, your friends and younger family members to wonder freely so you can enjoy the vibrant atmosphere safely.
Please go to ‘Line Up’ on the festival website for full details about these performances, artists, timings and venues.
Look out for our brightly decorated ‘Street Pianos’ at five locations in the town during all three days of the festival. Join us in the celebration of both piano and visual art and feel free to pull up a stool, bring your sheet music and play away to your hearts content entertaining the crowds and passers-by in the morning, afternoon or evening! Let’s make great music and have some fun!
Come along to experience Spoken Word Poetry on Saturday 24th August, the amazing and edgy DAT Brass Acoustic Soundsystem on Sunday 25th August and the majestic Harvey’s dray horses make a special appearance in the afternoon on bank holiday Monday 26th August. All these events start at the Georgian Butter Market. There will also be street music performances at locations in the town, music workshops and performances at fringe venues that include the Mermaid Inn, the Ship Inn, the Kings Head, outside the Simply Italian restaurant and dinner and late night jazz sessions at the award – winning restaurant the Devil In Rye.
Our friends at the newly refurbished The Gallivant Hotel in Camber host two unique live music events on bank holiday Monday 26th August. The legendary Bass player Herbie Flowers presents his very famous ‘Jazz Breakfast’ and later that afternoon you can experience ‘Planet Cuba’ with a DJ, cocktails, a special menu and wonderful live music from one of the hottest and highly acclaimed Cuban Son bands ‘Son Yambu’ so make sure you bring your dancing shoes!
You can purchase tickets online through the festival website and make sure you pick up a festival guide in the coming weeks where you will find comprehensive details of the complete festival programme.
Why not get a group of friends together, treat someone special or bring the whole family and enjoy the festivities. See you all at the end of August!
