The Rye Jazz & Blues Festival are delighted to be working with The Devil in Rye to bring you two wonderful Jazz Supper events over the August Bank Holiday weekend. One of the most sought after trios in the South East, fronted by pianist and composer Iain Rae. This outstanding trio boast a wonderful blend of excellent musicians with a superb repertoire of covers and originals.

Scottish born, Iain Rae has been a professional musician, composer, band leader and music teacher for 35 years. In the 1970’s Iain played keyboards in chart-topping band Gallagher & Lyle, which led to major tours of the U.S., Canada and Europe, plus TV appearances including Top of the Pops.

In the early 1980’s Iain toured with Wilco Johnson and blues singer Nicky Moore, and founded critically acclaimed jazz-funk band Hard Lines, “Britain’s leading jazz-funk band” (The Independent).

He was awarded touring grants from Jazz South, and toured the UK and France. Band members and guests in Hard Lines have included the cream of British jazz musicians, including Gary Plumbley, Jim Mullen, Tim Whitehead, Derek Nash, Tim Cansfield and Tim Garland.

Iain enjoys working with students and sharing his love of music.

Cool Dinner Jazz with TERRY SEABROOK JAZZ TRIO on Sunday 25th August at 7:00pm

Terry Seabrook on piano and Nigel Thomas on bass have been playing together since they started out in jazz as a duo called ‘The Smalltet’ at The Eagle in Brighton, 40 years ago. Since then they have played together in various formations, ‘Hipnosis’ in the 80s being a memorable jazz funk high point, as well as in their own individual projects.

Recently they have been playing with newcomer Darren Beckett on drums, who has returned from New York. Darren has been making a name for himself in the thriving Brighton jazz scene as well as continuing his international work with singer Madeleine Peyroux, with whom he’s worked with
for over ten years. His CV also includes Lee Konitz, Larry Goldings, Rich Perry, The Fugees and Aaron Parks.

The Trio will be playing some bespoke arrangements of standards as well as originals and songs by more contemporary players such as Pat Metheny, Lennon-McCartney, Tom Harrell and Clare Fischer.

Join us at the Devil Rye on Sunday night where you can relax and unwind listening to some superb live music after a day at the festival. This is a rare chance to hear and see the legendary Jazz singer Earl Okin performing Cabaret in a small and intimate venue.
There will be a fully licensed bar and bar snacks available to purchase. Doors open at 10:30pm and music will continue to 1am.
