The street vibe of New Orleans came to Rye over the festival weekend where audiences were treated to the sounds of the best Jazz, Blues, Swing, Funk and Latin music. There was a real party atmosphere as music lovers, families and friends moved freely from one venue to another experiencing the free street music at the Kino Cinema outdoor performance stage and the Georgian Butter Market venue. We hope that you also managed to sample the delicious Cajun food on offer and enjoy the festival jazz ale – Jazz Top made by our friends at the Old Dairy Brewery.
Thank you to all those that made the special journey to Rye to experience the fun, vibrancy and excitement of the festival this year. Our programme included a wide variety of outstanding free music events across Rye and many local venues hosted some of the coolest live music. We extend a big thank you to all of the wonderful musician’s, bands, sponsors, media partners, private patrons, venues and the Rye Town Council that made an invaluable contribution to the success of this year’s event.
There are so many great memories to savour including the impressive musicianship of the Sky Arts Guitar Stars, Zayn Mohammed and Steve Morrison on Friday 25th to the Brass Funkeys marching band strutting their brass magic on the Kino Stage and then on the streets of Rye creating that edgy New Orleans vibe on Saturday 26th.
The Kino Stage and Butter Market played host to many exciting live music events and the atmosphere was warm friendly and fun with so many enjoying the Cuban rhythms of Kandela Mi Son, The Violet Jive, The Fabulous Red Diesel, The Brillos, Rod Pooley Funkey Organ Trio, the amazing New Orleans maestro Dom Pipkin, Paul Richards Latin Trio, Louis Turpin Blues Trio and many others. Thank you to all of the musicians that performed this year and we hope that you enjoyed your performance as much as the audiences and we did!
The beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church is where we presented our two main headline festival sell out concerts with the incredible UK Queen of Soul Mica Paris on Saturday 27th. A special thank you goes to our sponsors Future Climate Info, St Mary’s Church and the incredible Mica Paris and her amazing band for such an uplifting and mind blowing performance. Mica had the audience up and dancing with her unique blend soul classics and many of her hits. What a night to remember as we knew that it would be!
A massive thank you to the amazing multi – talented Jazz singers and pianists Liane Carroll and Joe Stilgoe who ended the festival on a real high on Monday 29th and again, St Mary’s was sold to capacity as the audience experienced two consummate performers at their absolute best performing an eclectic mix of contemporary repertoire including their own interpretations of classy jazz standards and songs from Liane’s wonderful new album ‘Seaside’ of which Joe wrote the title track as a special gift for Liane. Thank you to our sponsors of the Liane and Joe concert; Stone Rock Dental Practice, 8AM Global, Fairlight Arts Trust and private patrons Roy and Madeleine Swainbank.
A very special mention must go to the amazing festival team that made the entire festival possible. Our committed, passionate and professional team worked tirelessly to ensure that attendees and artists had a superb experience. From staging, lighting, sound, artist’s liaison, publicity, the bar at St Mary’s and event management – Thank you guys you are all stars!
