The workshop is intended both for professional musicians and beginners who are interested in jazz, hip-hop improvisation and composition. The final in the series is being run by the Kansas Smitty’s House Band on Monday 26th August.
This workshop will take place before their concert at 4pm on the Kino Outdoor Stage.
The workshop will be in two parts. The first half will cover the music and styles that inspired them to start out; Kansas City, Basie, Chicago, Louis and how it’s shaped their further exploration of jazz. The second half will be about personal time keeping and rhythm section playing with an emphasis on the grooves the band play that are different from the standard swing skipbeat and their improvisation styles. There will be time for some questions at the end.
The workshop is intended both musicians and fans of jazz and please come ready to actively participate.
