On Saturday 27th October the Rye international jazz and blues festival proudly presented the wonderfully talented American jazz singer, songwriter and saxophonist Curtis Stigers at the atmospheric and intimate setting of Tonbridge School, Kent. This was the first performance of Curtis’ UK winter tour and a capacity audience were treated to two carefully crafted sets that included a stunning range of repertoire from Curtis' impressive back catalogue and jazz standards. Curtis was in fine voice showing off his impressive vocal range and was joined by his jazz quartet of exceptionally talented musicians.
The evenings repertoire included ‘Fly me to the Moon’, ‘One for my Baby’ and from Curtis’ last album release ‘One More for the Road’. Curtis performed two tracks from his ‘Hooray for Love’ album title song ‘Hooray for Love’ and ‘You Don’t Know What Love Is’ and many other songs from previously released albums.
Curtis in unquestionably one of the finest jazz singers of his generation and it was only fitting that he also performed jazz interpretations of his two biggest hits of the 1980’s ‘You’re all that Matters to Me’ and ‘I Wonder Why’.
This was our first concert presentation in the ‘Big School’ at Tonbridge School which provided superb facilities and we are already in the process of planning additional events for dates in 2019 at the school.
We extend our gratitude and thanks to our concert partners for their much appreciated support; Warners Solicitors based in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks and Brooks MacDonald Wealth Managers based in Tunbridge Wells.
Thank you to all of those that attended this incredibly special concert. We also extend our special thanks and gratitude to the wonderful team at Tonbridge School, the technical team at On Stage that provide sound, lighting and staging and last but not least the dedicated festival team and our hardworking volunteers.
We would be thrilled to invite Curtis back to perform a headline concert at the 2019 August jazz and blues festival in Rye. Sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know about the festival plans for 2019 and other regional events we are planning.
