Christmas series of concerts in Rye

As the Christmas season once again approaches, the Rye international jazz & blues festival is delighted to announce a very special series of stunning, intimate, world class concerts in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church in Rye on 14th to 16th of December. Spread the joy this season and treat yourself, your other half or get a group of friends together and enjoy an early Christmas treat!

On Friday 14th December the festival is thrilled to announce a wonderful festive Christmas concert with the much loved and acclaimed singer, recording artist, radio broadcaster and TV presenter Aled Jones. Aled will be performing repertoire from his impressive back catalogue, songs from his last solo album release ‘One Voice’ and a selection of seasonal classics to get us all in that Christmas spirit.

Aled will be joined by the 16 piece Fidelity International choir and a very special guest, mezzo soprano singer Danielle Thomas. Danielle has enjoyed much recent acclaim both in her hometown of Liverpool and around the nation and we are delighted to welcome her back to St Mary’s Church after joining Russell Watson at the festival last year. At the age of 11, Danielle made her television debut on BBC’s Songs of Praise where she sang Rick Wakeman’s arrangement of ‘Morning has Broken’ accompanied by Rick himself, after being scouted by the BBC.

We are delighted to present a truly unique and intimate solo concert with Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award - winning singer and song writer KT Tunstall prior to her 2019 spring UK tour on Saturday 15th December at the stunning setting of St Mary’s Church, Rye.

This is an exceptional opportunity to hear and experience one of the most acclaimed, distinctive and respected British singer song writers who has sold over 7 million albums in her career to date. KT has recently released the lead single The River, taken from her 6th studio album WAX, which was released on October 5th on Virgin Records and brings the same energy and powerful voice that scored her a pair of top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits more than a decade ago: “Black Horse & The Cherry Tree” in 2006 and “Suddenly I See” in 2007. “The River” builds up with rocking, rhythmic guitar textures and a catchy chorus that is signature of her work.

Recently KT has been awarded the Inspirational Artist gong at the Women In Music Awards. She was chosen as the first ever female Grand Marshal (following the likes of Sir Sean Connery) to lead April’s annual New York Tartan Week parade. In May she and Mike McCready, of legendary multimillion selling Pearl Jam, also released a cover of Tom Petty’s huge hit single I Won’t Back Down with proceeds going to Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation. KT has spent the summer touring worldwide with superb artists including, The Pretenders, Simple Minds and Barenaked Ladies.

On Sunday 16th December we are proud to present an incredibly unique and exceptional Christmasconcert with one of world’s most acclaimed and truly legendary singers and guitarists José Feliciano.

Jose Feliciano has been acclaimed by critics throughout the world as “The greatest living guitarist” and he performs in Rye with his six piece band prior to performing for the Pope at the Vatican in Rome. José will be performing a special eclectic programme that will include many of his greatest hits from his impressive back catalogue that spans over a decade along with new repertoire from his latest album releases and a selection of special Christmas festival material.

Jose will bring some Christmas magic to St Mary’s with Feliz Navidad. The song is a greeting of affection and good cheer that has, for over two generations (it was originally recorded and released back in 1970), become some sort of anthem for well-wishers around the world, young and old alike, heralding the Christmas Holiday Season.
