Thank you to all those that attended our stunning December series of concerts at St Mary’s Church, Rye which we hope got you all into the Christmas spirit. We extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of the superb artists that performed, Mica Paris, Judi Jackson, Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook and Arcelia, our sponsors, the ever helpful team at St Mary’s Church, all of those that attended the concerts and our dedicated and passionate team of professionals and volunteers that make our events truly memorable.
We were delighted to have forged a very positive partnership with our chosen charity ‘Charity For Kids’ and thank you to all those that made donations at the concerts to this wonderful charity.
A special thank you is extended to Tony Ham for all of the superb photographs.
We were delighted to welcome Mica Paris and her very talented band on Friday 15th December.
This was Mica’s third trip to Rye a destination she loves returning to. Mica performed the music from Ella Fitzgerald to mark 100 years since her birth. She had the audience in the palm of her hand and as always blew everyone away with her performance.
Rye Jazz Festival is proud to champion emerging talent and we had great pleasure in presenting Judi Jackson before Mica took to the stage. Judi and her pianist really wowed the crowd with her original material and covers including Nina Simone. We hope to see her back for the summer festival.
Thank you to Future Climate Info who very kindly partnered and sponsored this fabulous concert and Hastings Redevelopment.
A big thank you to our friends at BBC South East TV for interviewing Mica before her concert.
On Saturday 16th December we were privileged to have presented another amazing night of stunning music with the two front men and founding members of Squeeze, Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook.
The evening opened with the wonderful Arcelia Trio from Kent, performing their sublime soulful and folk harmonies.
Squeeze front men Chris and Glenn took to the stage with much anticipation from a warm and expectant audience, many of which had travelled from far and wide for this very special intimate concert. Both were in fine voice performing an eclectic mix of their classic Squeeze hits, new songs from their latest album, and several new songs.
Needless to say that the entire performance was hugely appreciated with deserved standing ovations as the pair gave us fitting renditions of Up The Junction, Pulling Mussels from a Shell and much more…..an encore ensued to much delight with the timeless classic ‘Cool For
Cats’ to leave us all on a high and to complete what was a very special evening.
The festival would like to acknowledge the kind support of our event partner StoneRock Dental Practice in Hawkhurst.
Thank you again to Mica, Judi, Arcelia, Chris and Glenn for their wonderful performances and we can’t wait to ask you all back to Rye at some stage in the future. By the audiences reaction they would certainly love to see you all again!
We look forward to seeing you all again in May at our spring series of concerts. It really is wonderful to see so many returning, smiling faces and thank you for your continued support.
It just leaves us to wish you all a very happy Christmas and wonderful music filled New Year.
