In our ever changing world Covid-19 has impacted on all of our lives and none more so than on the arts and the live music industry. We all yearn for the day when we can enjoy and experience live music as we all remember and the joy, excitement and memories that music provides to us all.
Unfortunately we have been unable to present a number of our planned concerts this year and of course the annual Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival this August bank holiday weekend. It goes without saying that we miss our loyal festival goers, our talented artists, supportive sponsors, professional partners and our wonderful festival team.
Despite not being able to proceed with the 2020 August festival, we are delighted to confirm that we have rescheduled three of our original headline artists. Gabrielle, Incognito and China Moses will perform in Rye at the 10th anniversary festival in August 2021. In addition to this, we will be announcing new artists as part of next year’s programme over the coming months; one of which we are delighted to announce today - the incredibly talented Ashley Henry, who will be performing on Sunday 29th August 2021.
For a trip down memory lane why not take a look back at some of the images from the 2019 festival on our festival gallery and watch our 2018 showreel to remind yourselves of the wonderful atmosphere that festival brings to the beautiful and historic town of Rye each year.
I would like to personally thank all of our audiences and everyone associated with the festival in making what the festival is today….a unique event that will continue to go from strength to strength once we resume some level of normality in all of our lives.
Although we are living in uncertain times, our passion, determination and our sheer love of music remains stronger than ever. We are incredibly proud and privileged to have given so much joy and created special memories to so many people over the last nine years!
We know that music will bring us all back together again and we have been positively exploring many exciting plans for the future which will once again allow us to share music together. In the absence of being unable to present events in the immediate future we have been working hard to reschedule some of the artists that were due to perform with us in early and late May this year. Our plans include concerts in May 2021 and we hope to confirm these new events over the coming months.
We are delighted to confirm two events at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill in 2021, the first being our rescheduled concert with wonderful singer Rumer on Friday 12th March 2021 and the amazingly talented American Soul singer, songwriter and actress Macy Gray who will be performing for us on Sunday 20th June. Tickets for this concert go on sale at 10am on Friday 4th September.
We are also carefully considering the possibility of presenting events in December 2020 on the basis that circumstances are safe and suitable to do so. Naturally we are monitoring government guidelines on a regular basis to ensure that all of our future events can be executed with the upmost safety.
2021 will be an exciting year as we celebrate the festival’s 10th anniversary. This will include an expanded programme of events with world class headline concerts, outdoor stages, music workshops, a dedicated festival jazz club, street music and music at local venues.
We are also putting plans in place for our hugely exciting new live music series ‘UNITY’ which will be taking place at the stunning setting of St Mary In The Castle, Hastings during 2021. UNITY will be a beacon for exceptional live music performance on the South coast. We will be presenting regular monthly events with acclaimed international and UK music talent.
We plan to announce these events over the coming months and we will also continue to present outstanding live events with our friends at St Mary’s Church, Rye, The De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill and at other venues in the South East.
Thank you for all of your support and rest assured that we will be BRINGING BACK THE MUSIC.
