Tickets are selling fast for the sixth annual Rye International jazz and blues festival which is taking place from Thursday 24th - Monday 28th August and encompasses the Bank Holiday weekend. This year’s programme includes five superb intimate world class headline concerts which are staged in the stunning setting of St Mary’s Church, Rye. Headliners include Scottish brothers Pat and Gregory Kane, Hue & Cry, American Soul and Jazz singer Kandace Springs, acclaimed American Blues singer Eric Bibb and Folk singer and guitarist Seth Lakeman. An exciting additional inclusion to the festival this year, is three days of live jazz, award winning Nyetimber sparkling wines and exceptional food all of which takes place on the Nyetimber Terrace located at the Rye Lodge Hotel in Rye.
Live jazz, stunning views, food platters and sunshine combine to make the perfect atmosphere and to listen to superb jazz performances each day from Saturday 26th to Monday 28th August from 1.00pm – 3.00pm.
Performances include intoxicating gypsy jazz with Trio Manouch on Saturday 26th, the Iain Rae Jazz Trio perform cool modern jazz classics on Sunday 27th and the Paul Richards Latin Jazz Trio bring you the best Bossa Nova’s and Latin Rhythms on Monday 28th.
Special wine tastings also take place at the Nyetimber terrace between 6.00pm – 7.00pm on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th.
Fantastic free music takes place at the dedicated outdoor music stage which is located at the Kino Cinema Terrace within the heart of Rye in Lion Street. These events create a wonderful vibrant fun atmosphere and there will also be refreshments, food and bars serving your favourite drinks throughout each day. Expect the very best in jazz, blues, RnB, Soul, Folk, Roots, Latin, Cuban and contemporary music performances on the outdoor stage with performances taking place from 1.00pm – 7.00pm on Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th and Monday 28th August.
Talented musicians and bands performing at the outdoor stage include, Martin McNeill’s Bottleneck Blues Trio, Gyspy Jazz from the talented Trio Manouche, Jazz Funk from Faversham based Nico’s band, feverish Latin and Swing vibes from the Violet Jive, heavy weight acoustic Roots and Blues with Sussex based King Size Slim Sound, driving Cuban Rhythms with London based Son Yambu, Blues Rock from the power Trio Freak Flag performing the music of Jimi Hendrix and Cream, and Dom Pipkin and the Ikos performing their unique New Orleans Jazz and stomping Blues.
Phil Law and friends perform at the Standard Inn Rye on Thursday 24th August from 7.00pm, The Rye Bay Crew Swing into the festival performing at the Queens Head, Rye on Friday 25th from 8.30pm, Julie Edmonds performs Simply Diva’s at the Kings Head Inn, Rye on Sunday 27th from 7.00pm.
Solo Jazz guitarist Ed Holden performs the coolest jazz vibes at the newly opened Ethel Loves Me gallery from 4.00pm to 5.00pm on Sunday 27th.
The final day of the festival on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August, there will be free music events taking place at the Old Borough Arms on Strand Quay from 1.00pm with the Terry Seabrook jazz Trio, the Jazz Funk Giants perform at Simply Italian, from 3.00pm and many other live music events also take place at the Grapevine Champagne and Jazz bar in Rye over the entire weekend.
